Family Scripture Study

Well, I made it :)  Reunion, thanks to a lot of help from my mom and sisters, is over and done.  Clothing swap, thanks to two of my friends is over and done.  And the Relief Society Super Service Saturday thanks to LOTS of folks is done.  These last few weeks have tested the limits of what I thought I was capable of, but thanks to many people, and even more prayers, I made it through mostly unscathed :)  As fun as they all were, it's very nice to have them all over.

We have been trying something new for family scripture study.  I was at a loss of what to do, because I have kids at such different stages, and nothing really seemed to work or help for longer than a day or two.  And it seemed like anything over 30 seconds was just too long.  As I was thinking about this, the thought came to me (a thought I definitely cannot take credit for) to use the scripture reader that the church puts out in conjunction with the kid's scriptures.

So each night, we follow the story in the reader, but read 2 or 3 scriptures out of the scriptures themselves.  I have a little basket with all of their scriptures, crayons, pencils and stickers for them to each use, and we discuss each of the stories to try to apply it to them and what they are going through in each of their own lives.  At the end, we practice on memorizing a scripture together.  So far, the kids have all memorized 2 of them...so exciting!  Even Asher memorized the last one...2 Nephi 2:25 "Adam fell that men might be, men are that they might have joy."  I have marveled watching the affect it has had on my children and our home. More than 30 seconds still feels like too long sometimes (okay, most times), but it seems to really be helping invite the Spirit to our home, so happy day :)

Tiffany-Any time & effort you give to the scriptures is great. I am embarrassed to say that we are just barely finishing the Book of Mormon after about 4 long years! Although we have been very hit and miss with our efforts, (and our children are much older than yours) I still feel like we have been blessed for what we have tried to do! Keep up the good work!
