February 21 - Frostbite and WWF - chapter 9

Bryan picked me up on Monday and we headed for Mueller Park Canyon in Bountiful. Now when we had gone hiking on Antelope Island, there was no snow to speak of, and it was essentially dry. So my ghetto tennis shoes and flannel shirt worked out just dandy. But Mueller Park still had a good foot or two of snow. I had dressed what I considered to be warmly, but about 20 minutes into the hike, when I started loosing feeling from the knees down, I knew I was in trouble. I wore a pair of Payless wannabe hiking boots that gave me blisters just by looking at them. I thought they would be more waterproof than my tennies (and I had hoped to impress Bryan with my outdoorsiness), but yeah, I was pretty much totally wrong on that one. I was freezing, I was soaking wet, and the last thing I wanted to do was draw any kind of negative attention to myself. I could tell Bryan was woodsy, I KNEW Colin and Andrea were woodsy, and the last thing I was going to do was complain and act like a prissy GIRL. They would NEVER know I was cold or uncomfortable. In fact, I think I told them I was getting hot just to throw them off :)

Half way into the hike, Bryan went from being somewhat quiet and sarchastically funny to being a rambunctious flirt! He started throwing snowballs at me...relentlessly. I probably would have gotten into it more with him, except I was focusing so hard on not looking cold that that was about all I had in me. But inspite of suffering from major frostbite, I could not stop laughing at him. He was so funny!

We stopped after a while, and Colin pulled out his little propane one burner stove and we made macaroni and cheese for lunch...never done that before! And it was seriously good...I was shocked. By this time, though, I was hurting so bad, I couldn't fake it any more. When Bryan could see I was having a tough time, he was visibly concerned. He offered me his coat, and even offered to switch shoes with me...I am a 7 womens...he is an 11 mens....yeah. But he was being so sweet, and I knew he meant it. He would have walked down the mountain in my little crappy boots that would have barely made it over his toes if I had asked him to, and I knew it. But it wasn't necessary. His chivalry gave me a second wind and I made it to the trailhead with my pride...and his feet....still in tact.

We headed to Colin and Andrea's after for dinner. For whatever reason Bryan was still in kind of a rowdy mood, and the next thing I knew he had done some WWF move on me and I was flat on my back in the middle of the floor. The sympathy he had shown me on the mountain was long since gone. The thud I made as I came crashing down was deafening...especially for an upstairs apartment, but he didn't seem to notice. I just remember thinking...is this the real Bryan?

We ate a delicious dinner and ended the night by watching The Lamb of God (it was fairly new at the time) and Life is Beautiful (Bryan hadn't seen it, I had). Kind of heavy emotional movies for a date night, but it was great. I was a little surprised he wasn't even trying to put any kind of a move on me...no hand holding, no snuggling...just shoulder to shoulder blanket sharing. He was SO confusing!

After it was all over, he took me home to my apartment. Again, conversations with him were just so easy...like nothing I had ever experienced before. I found myself hoping it wouldn't end, and I think I may have tried saying stupid things just to stall and drag it out. Because let's face it, Bryan didn't exactly have the best track record for getting back with me, and there were no guarrantees how soon I would see him again. Besides, right as he helped me get out of the car, he made sure I had my wallet :)

Our first movie date night Alex made the move by asking "Is this your right hand or you left hand?" I told him right and then he waited like another fifty hours before he grabbed it!!! Oh Alex had a bunch of really awesome lines I tell you!
