Playing catch-up...

Wow...here we are embarking on the 3rd week of school, I suppose it would be good if I actually got around to the first day of school before Christmas hits...

This is always such a bittersweet day for me.  I am so excited for my kids to see their friends, meet their teachers, and start fresh, but it's always hard for me to relinquish my claim to the majority of their time to someone else.  Thankfully, they all have wonderful teachers so that helps.
Zerin was uncharacteristically nervous going into the day, but he came home in a good mood, so I'll take it :)  Liah was also pretty shy and a little nervous, but she came home all smiles.

I admit, I was a little afraid that kindergarten wouldn't know what hit it once Aeden started school, but he is doing so well and is making lots of friends.  He was down to business on the first day, ready to begin his educational career.  Even though other kids were crying, sad to leave their mommies when I was sitting in his kindergarten orientation with him, Aeden barely noticed I was there.  I am so glad he has the teacher he does because she said to me Friday, "If the worst thing he does is talk, I can be more than happy with that."  She just loves and appreciates him in all of his high volume splendor.  A little boy named Thomas showed up to school the first day with a Spiderman backpack similar to Aeden's and he called him his "twinner friend."  This is especially funny because one of the fastest ways to get under his skin is to call him Asher's twin.  He gets so mad, so this was pretty funny to me :)

So I don't know if I ever said, but Belen's leg ended up being broken.  We thought it was her foot...nope, her leg.  So this last week we got her cast off.  It was a very happy day for me, I mean her :)  She had been getting a little frustrated with all she wanted to do but couldn't and my wits were having fits.  But you would never guess that from looking at these sweet pictures :)

One other little thing about Belen is how much she LOVES Disney's Tangled.  Rapunzel or "Punzel" as she calls her is by far her favorite princess.  The back of her hair gets really tangled at night, so the only way she lets me comb it out is if I sing the flower song from the movie while I'm doing it.  So when I saw this little Rapunzel dress, I had to get it as a special treat for getting her cast off.  She's walking a little stiff-legged now, but she's walking, and she's not nearly as frustrated, which means I'M not nearly as frustrated :)

Mandalen is growing like a beautiful little weed.  I WILL post pictures of her soon (now I am committed).  I am just not good at capturing how cute she is, so I'm enlisting outside help soon.  She is so sweet and good natured.  She still doesn't like being naked, and she doesn't have a lot of patience when she's hungry, but other than that, she's a dream.  I think she gets new rolls every week...yesterday I noticed ones between her wrists and her elbows...so cute!  She slept until 4:30 this morning, ate, and went right back to sleep.   Normally I go right back to sleep too, but for some reason, I couldn't so I'm actually accomplishing something for a few minutes before everyone is up in a few minutes. :)

So 6 kids...wow.  One of the biggest adventures/challenges I've had so far, but there is nothing like sitting together (okay, truth be told, two boys are wrestling, one is laying on the dog, the two girls are having a screaming contest and I'm feeding the baby).  Those happy moments make all of the chaos and whatever-we-are-calling-this worth it.  I'm having a really hard time not being completely overwhelmed, and not getting down on myself for not being on top of things, but as everyone tries to keep reminding me, this is a short season, and it won't be like this forever.  And like President Monson said not too long ago, I WILL miss the piles of laundry when the kids are gone, so I'm trying hard to enjoy every minute...or at least a lot of minutes....every day :)
